A wattle is a fleshy dewlap that hangs from the head of most chickens. Chickens normally have two wattles hanging from the bottom of their beak and neck. Wattle size varies greatly from breed to breed and chicken to chicken, but in general, the wattles of roosters are larger than those of hens. Some breeds, such as Auracanas and Ameraucana, lack wattles entirely, or have very, very small wattles.
