Red jungle fowl

The red jungle fowl (Gallus gallus) is the ancestor of domestic chickens and a member of the Pheasant family Phasianidae. They originate in Southeast Asia and still live there today. The domestic chicken is simply a subspecies of the red jungle fowl (Gallus gallus domesticus), that has been bred to have many different feather colorings and patterns, be various sizes, and even have much different behaviors than their ancestors.

It is harder and harder to find those that are not "mixed blooded" because of inter-breeding between domesticated chickens in captivity. They are of "least concern" in their species survival. They can be found in Thailand, farms, in captivity, and they can fly, too!

It courts the female by placing a food item in a empty area, and bobs it's head to gain attention. If the female eats the food item, it's a sign of agreement to mate.
