The Naked Neck chicken, sometimes called a Turken or Transylvanian Naked Neck is a medium sized breed that partially or completely lacks feathering on the neck and vent. Often, they will have a small tuft, or 'beard' of feathers on the front of the neck. The name Turken originated from their appearance, which is thought to look as if they are turkeys crossed with chickens. They do well in heat and are more efficient in protein usage because they have fewer feathers to produce, resulting in lower protein expendature.
