The Ameraucana is an American breed popularized by its production of blue eggs. they are sometimes confused with their ancestor, the Araucana, or more commonly with Easter Eggers. Ameraucanas are cold hardy due to their pea comb and small or absent wattles. Unlike their Araucana ancestors, they lack a lethal allele combination. They are good winter layers, only stopping laying for one month in winter, from late November or early December to early January.

Easter Egger[]

The Easter Egger is a hybrid of the Araucana and other breeds to get brightly colored eggs. They are not a true breed, and are not recognized by the American Poultry Association. They are often confused with the Ameraucana and Araucana.
